Kuwait to shut private schools located in residential areas

Kuwait has announced plans to shut private schools operating in residential areas by the end of 2028.

The move comes amid mounting enterprises over civic planning, business traffic, and residers’ quality of life in densely populated neighbourhoods.

Kuwait’s Minister for State Affairs Abdul Latif Al Mishari approved the decision, following a resolution passed by the Municipal Council.

Under the new directive, private seminaries will no longer be permitted to operate from domestic locales, marking a significant change in the country’s approach to integrating educational installations within civic areas.

Al Mishari also introduced a new demand for unborn academy developments land allocated for private seminaries must admit previous blessing from the General Traffic Department. Developers will be needed to submit a detailed business impact study, approved by the applicable authorities, aimed at reducing traffic in girding neighbourhoods.

The decision follows longstanding complaints from residers about business backups, noise, and safety enterprises linked to seminaries located within domestic sections in Kuwait, a challenge for Kuwait’s fleetly expanding civic areas.
