Lahore: Woman ‘burnt alive by in-laws’ dies

LAHORE: A woman died of severe burn wounds after she was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws within the remits of Millat Park Police Station, ARY News reported Thursday.

The woman was brought to hospital in a critical condition where she breathed her last. The police registered the case with her father as complainant.

The FIR states that 35-year-old Nasreen was burnt alive by her husband, his brother and mother. It was further said in the complaint that Nasreen had married Shehzad three months ago and quarrels had become regular between the couple.

The victim had also given a statement at the hospital. She said she was in the kitchen when somebody from behind sprinkled her with petrol and set her ablaze. “I tried to came out of kitchen, but the door was locked from outside,” she had said in the statement before she passed away.

Police said the investigation was underway and further details would be out soon.

Six days ago, a newly-wed man was shot dead by his father-in-law allegedly over a so-called honour issue in Lahore last week. According to the police, Zubair had contracted a ‘free-will’ marriage with a girl in Islampura 10 days ago and had left for Islamabad for Honeymoon.

As soon as Zubair along with his wife returned from Islamabad, his father-in-law killed him and escaped from the scene, said the police. Rescue officials shifted the body to the hospital for medico legal formalities. Police lodged a case and began searching the suspect.
