Bollywood’s legend actress Sridevi died of cardiac arrest in Dubai at the age 54. She leaves behind a legacy of film career, earning several awards and recognition to her credit.
The veteran actress is survived by her husband – producer Boney Kapoor – and daughters Jhanvi and Khushi. She was in Dubai to attend a family wedding.
Here’s what actually happened at her Dubai hotel room.
According to Rediff report citing the sources, Sridevi was getting ready for a dinner date with her husband Boney Kapoor in Dubai before she reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest at their hotel room and died on Saturday evening.
According to a source close to the family as reported by the Rediff, Kapoor flew back from Mumbai and went to her room at the Hotel around 5:30pm to “surprise” her with dinner.
“He woke her up and the couple chatted for about 15 minutes before he invited her for dinner. The actress then went to the washroom.”
“After 15 minutes passed and Sridevi did not come out, Kapoor knocked on the door to check on her. When he got no response, he forced open the door to find the legendary actor lying motionless in the bathtub full of water.”
“He tried to revive her and when he could not, he called his friend. After that, he informed the police at 9pm,”.
The police and paramedics rushed to the site, but she was pronounced dead. Her body was taken to the General Department of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
Here’s what the forensic report says
The forensic report of the actress’s autopsy confirms that she died of a cardiac arrest.
However, according to HT, Sanjay Kapoor, Sridevi’s brother-in-law, told Khaleej Times,
“We are completely shocked. She had no history of a heart attack.”
‘Nothing suspicious’
Hindustan Times cites its ‘official sources’ in Dubai as saying that there was ‘nothing suspicious’ about the manner of her death.
Reports say that delay should be expected in bring Sridevi’s body back to Mumbai. Because her post-mortem report came out inconclusive, a toxicology report is demanded by Dubai’s forensic dept. The body will be released only when a blood report is submitted to the Dubai police. Further investigations will be done if the toxicology results are also inconclusive.
Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, and younger daughter Khushi Kapoor were in Ras Al Khaimah early last week to celebrate the wedding of her nephew Mohit Marwah.
Boney Kapoor had returned to Mumbai after the wedding, but decided to come back to ‘surprise’ his wife.
The autopsy was completed on Sunday evening and the body is expected to be flown back to Mumbai today, where her funeral would take place.
Sridevi made her Bollywood debut in 1979 with Solva Sawan, but it was in 1983, with Balu Mahendra’s “Sadma” that she made her mark in the Hindi film industry. The same year, she also acted with Jeetendra in K Raghavendra Rao’s blockbuster “Himmatwala”, cementing her place as one of Bollywood’s top actresses.
Sridevi’s death triggered an outpouring of tributes from Bollywood luminaries and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“I have no words. Condolences to everyone who loved Sridevi. A dark day. RIP,” actress Priyanka Chopra said on Twitter.
“She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances,” Modi said in a tweet by the prime minister’s office.
