Major achievements of Pakistan's armed forces in 2016

RAWALPINDI: Inter- Service Public Relations (ISPR), military’s public affairs wing, has released the details of major achievements of armed forced in the year 2016, including countrywide anti-terror operations and extensive security measures taken in its wake.

According to DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor in a Twitter statement, arrangements for security of China -Pakistan Economic Corridor were taken, alongside raising of Special Security Division (SSD) for 870 kilometer road network.

About border situation, he said Indian forces committed 379 cross fire violations in which 46 Pakistani citizens embraced martyrdom. In response to these violations, 40 Indian soldiers were killed.

Underlining about Karachi operation, he said 1992 operations were conducted, and 2847 criminals were arrested during the action.

A total of 446 target killers were apprehended during the raids while 350 terrorist were also arrested. As a result, the metropolis saw an incredible 91% drop in target killings while other terrorism related activities were also declined by 72%, said the ISPR report.

Gen Ghafoor also shed light on the performance of military courts. A total of 274 criminals were presented for trials, out of which 161 were awarded with death penalties, 12 faced executions while 113 others were imprisoned.

Overall 81% Temporary Displaced Persons (TDPs) from North Waziristan, South Waziristan and Khyber agency returned to their native areas, he added.

Pakistan successfully tested enhanced version of Babur cruise missile and produced air launched Ra’ad missile.

During the operation Zarb-e-Azb in 2016, a total of 3500 terrorists were killed in the operation, 583 Army troops also embraced martyrdom while 2108 soldier sustained wounds.

Pakistan army successfully destroyed 992 terrorist hideouts, seized 7599 ammo factories and improvised explosive devices, recovered 18087 weapons and destroyed 253 tons of explosives.
