He was martyred during Indo-Pak war in 1971.
He is the only person ever who received both the Nishan-e-Haider and Sitara-e-Jurat for his bravery in the war. In addition, he is also a recipient of Sword of Honour.
Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, who is the younger brother of Major Shabbir Sharif, visited the grave of martyred soldier and laid floral wreath.
On September 6, Defence Day, Pakistan Army officers and people from various walks of life had visited the grave of Major Shabbir Sharif and paid tributes to him.
A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army led by Major General Fida Hussain Malik presented a salute to Major Shabbir Sharif.
