Mayor Karachi says rainwater to take two more days to drain

KARACHI: Showing up after six days of rains, Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Monday said it will take two more days to drain rainwater, ARY News reported.

Sources said Wasim Akhtar had left for the United States on a personal visit before it rained.

After coming back, he visited different areas of the city including YousufGoth, Abdul Rahim Goth, UC-38, Gadap Town, Surjani Town, New Karachi, District West to review dewatering of rainwater.

He also arranged food and drinking water for 2,000 workers and sympathized with the citizens over the difficulties they were confronting.

The mayor was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra and municipal staff.

Wasim Akhtar lambasted the administrative units responsible for cleanliness.

“We stand by the citizens because they have voted us and we would resolve their issues. They are facing some genuine problems. Water has entered their houses. The rainwater on piles of garbage has exacerbated the situation and causing outbreak of diseases,” he said.

Apprising the media about “a permanent solution” to rainwater, he said a new nullah would be constructed for easy flow of water.
