Women’s domestic cricket does not often become an overnight social media sensation, but Medhavi Bidhuri changed that during the opening round of the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026.
The 20-year-old leg-spinner’s unusual wicket celebration quickly caught the attention of fans online, while the story behind the gesture added another layer to her unexpected moment in the spotlight.
Playing for Central Delhi Queens against defending champions South Delhi Superstarz in the tournament opener on August 20, Bidhuri claimed two wickets. After dismissing Nishika Singh in the 16th over, she performed the now-popular ‘6-7′ celebration, repeatedly moving both hands in a playful seesaw-like motion.
The celebration soon circulated widely on social media, with the official DPL Instagram account joining the conversation. “No way she hit the ’67’. Medhavi Bidhuri surely is chronically online,” the account joked.
Although South Delhi Superstarz eventually secured a 29-run victory, Medhavi Bidhuri’s celebration became one of the biggest talking points from the opening match. What appeared to be a spontaneous internet-inspired gesture actually had a simple origin: her jersey number.
Medhavi Bidhuri revealed that her original choice of number was unavailable, prompting her younger sister to suggest No. 67. Since the number was associated with the viral ‘6-7’ trend, the idea for the celebration followed naturally.
Speaking to content creator Abhishek Pandey, Bidhuri explained that she normally wore No. 12, but the number had already been taken. Her younger sister, whom she described as being part of Gen Z, encouraged her to switch to 67 and incorporate the trending gesture into her celebrations.
The ‘6-7’ hand movement has become a recognizable meme among Gen Z and Gen Alpha audiences, even though it does not have one definitive meaning. The trend has also found its way into sport, with several high-profile athletes, including former Delhi Daredevils stars Kevin Pietersen and David Warner, as well as Brazilian footballer Casemiro, joining in at different times.
However, Bidhuri’s cricketing journey extends well beyond her viral moment. She has been part of Delhi’s domestic cricket structure for several years and previously represented South Delhi Superstarz in the 2025 edition of the Delhi Premier League. She also played a key role in last year’s final, returning impressive figures of 3 for 26.
Now representing Central Delhi Queens, Bidhuri’s focus in the opening game was not necessarily on collecting wickets. Instead, she aimed to keep the scoring rate under control and build pressure through dot balls.
“I was mainly wanting not to give away boundaries and I wanted that most of my balls were dots. I didn’t come to take wickets,” she said while reflecting on her spell.
If the young leg-spinner continues to produce match-winning spells throughout the season, No. 67 may eventually become associated not just with a viral meme, but with the emergence of a promising player on the women’s domestic circuit.
