Mir Hasil Bizenjo, senior vice president of the National Party, was born on February 3, 1958 to a family that has played a significant role in Balochistan’s politics.
Hailing from backward Nal Valley of Khuzdar, central Balochistan, Hasil started his political career with Pakistan National Party (PNP) – then headed by his brother Mir Bizen Bizenjo – and was first elected MNA in the 1990 elections from his native constituency.
His father, Mir Ghous Baksh Bizenjo, was a nationalist leader known for his peaceful struggle for provision of rights to Baloch people.
Bizenjo is said to be a loyal friend of former prime minister and PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif since his first election as member of the National Assembly.
He was re-elected from the same constituency as member of the National Assembly in the 1997 polls, this time on a ticket of Sardar Attaullah Mengal-led Balochistan National Party (BNP).
However, he later joined one of the BNP splinter groups, Balochistan National Democratic Party (BNDP), which later in 2003 merged with National Party (NP), then led by Dr Abdul Hayee Baloch.
The party boycotted the 2008 general elections in protest against the issues plaguing Balochistan province.
In 2009, he was re-elected as a member of the Upper House of Parliament. In the March, 2015, Bizenjo was elected as senator after securing 10 votes. His tenure will last until March 2021.
