Money laundering case: Merchant to consult lawyers on Nisar's committee

Merchant said he came to know about the formation of a committee by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan through the media. “So far, neither the Pakistan High Commission in London has contacted me in this regard nor the Pakistan Home Office,” he told.

Whenever contacted, Merchant said, he will decide whether to cooperate after consultation with his legal advisers in Britain.

Taking notice of Merchant’s statement pertaining to the money laundering investigations against him and others, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had directed his ministry to form a committee to view legal aspects of the statement by Sarfraz Merchant.

The Ministry of Interior said, in a statement, that the committee will analyze whether Merchant’s statement is substantial enough to take up the issue with British government.

The committee will also review if the statement could help in the investigations of the money laundering case in Pakistan, it added.
