'MQM facing oppression at the hands of security institutions', US told

The memorandum is addressed to the Washington’s special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Olson.
The memo states that elements in the intelligence agencies were issuing direct threats to MQM leaders to change loyalties or face action.

The allegation was leveled in the face of formation of Pak Sarzameen Party, led by former mayor Karachi and MQM leader Syed Mustafa Kamal, who is often accused by some to have backing of the establishment. However, he has denied all these accusations.
The MQM, in its letter, also highlighted that several of its workers had been missing since 2013 and pointed fingers at the security institutions behind disappearance of activists.
“Since its formation in 1984, MQM has been facing state oppression, and now some agencies are conniving to wipe out the MQM from the political horizon”, the letter added.
MQM has also sent copies of memorandum to all members of the US Foreign Relations Committee who has temporarily withheld sale of F-16 fighter jets to Pakistan.
Political analyst Arshad Sharif said MQM had framed serious allegations on security institutions including ISI and military intelligence.
