Detained MQM-L activists confess to killing opponents, report reveals

KARACHI: An activist affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L)’s militant wing has confessed to brutally killing political opponents in the city, revealed a probe report obtained by ARY News.

Saleem Chaudhry, the suspect, has confessed to killing people with machetes after abducting them.

According to the investigative report, the suspect has admitted killing the activists of rival groups after abducting and taking them to the party’s torture cells.

During the interrogation, he told the probe team that he kidnapped an activist – Azad Hassan – from Orangi Town and killed him with machete at one of the party’s designated torture cells.

“Later, the body was buried on a hilltop,” he told to his interrogators, adding that a person named Iqbal used to assist him carrying out these killings.

Separately, another MQM-L activist – Zaheer – confessed to killing a person in 2008. He also admitted his involvement in equipping the party workers and unit offices with weapons, besides conducting firing in Haroon Goth after a dispute.

He told interrogators that he was also present at Karachi Press Club (KPC) when MQM founder Altaf Hussain was delivering an anti-state speech on August 22 last year.

The suspects arrested from District West of the metropolis.

The duo also informed that Nooruddin, Hayat, Kamran, Asif Bhayya and a few others were also involved in the killings. The investigative report said that the suspects named 22 of their accomplices to the law enforcement personnel.
