MQM-P announces three-day mourning over Abidi’s assassination

KARACHI: The leadership of Muttahida Quami Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P) on Wednesday announced three days of mourning (Youm-e-Sog) over the assassination of their former party leader Ali Raza Abidi. 

According to details, all political activities will be halted while the party offices will also remain closed. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, convener of MQM-P, has appealed his party workers to attend the funeral prayers of Abidi today.

The last rituals of slain former MNA, who was gunned down late night on Dec 25, will be offered in the afternoon today.

Sources informed that the body of the former Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s leader has been moved to Imam Bargah Yasrab in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) of Karachi.

Senior Superintendent (SSP) of district South Karachi, Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, has said that the First Information Report (FIR) of the murder will be registered after the funeral prayers.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed that two unidentified assailants chased Abidi and when the former lawmaker stopped his vehicle in front of his residence, in Khayaban-e-Ittehad locality, one of the assailants opened fire on Abidi and managed to escape from the scene.

Police officials said that the former MQM leader was alone in his car when he was attacked. The officials confirmed that he received bullet injuries in the attack and was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.
