MQM-P to bring no-confidence motion against Vohra: sources

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) is contemplating to put forward a motion of no-confidence against Deputy Mayor of Karachi Arshad Vohra at city council meeting on Tuesday (tomorrow), sources told ARY News on Monday.

According to the sources, City Mayor Waseem Akhtar will chair the city council meeting tomorrow in a bid to unseat Vohra for changing his party loyalty.

The MQM-P suffered a major setback on Sunday after one of the senior leaders and Deputy Mayor of Karachi – Arshad Vohra – bid the party adieu and joined Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Sattar will hold an important party meeting today (Monday) in Karachi.

The top leadership of MQM-P will discuss issues concerning party discipline and members changing their allegiance, sources said.

It merits mentioning here that Vohra had claimed in yesterday’s press conference that MQM-P lawmakers were willing to ditch the party to join Kamal-led PSP.

PSP to field candidates

Referring to Farooq Sattar’s last warning to party legislators, PSP president Qaimkhani said if Dr Farooq Sattar had moral standing, he along with his party men should resign from membership of the provincial and national assemblies as a large number of leaders associated with his party were ready to join the PSP.

“If MQM-P legislators resign, the PSP will field its candidates in the by-elections on the vacated seats,” he said.
