MQM-P issues white paper against PPP govt in Sindh

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has issued a white paper against the government of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) over alleged discriminatory policies towards people of Sindh and massive corruption since the last nine years.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, MQM-P leader Farooq Sattar said that the Sindh government has divided the province into two parts, which has created differences and is spreading hatred between the people of the province.

“This divide between the urban and rural population is not present in any other province, and is causing friction among the residents,” he said.

He strongly criticized the quota system prevalent in the province and said the system was developed more than forty years ago but has served its objectives and is not longer relevant.

Speaking over the performance of the PPP government, Farooq Sattar said that it had fulfilled up its bank balances from the budget allocations, while the situation of the Sindh has worsened since the last nine years.

He said that Karachi deserved to receive 52.5 percent budget allocation but received a meager four percent, while urban Sindh was even given the seven percent share of the Rs130 billion provincial budget.

Furthermore, he said Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) had not been issued Rs30 billion budget despite allocation of resources by federal government.

Sattar said that out of the Rs700 billion development budget in the last five years, only Rs28 billion was spent on Karachi. Furthermore, Sindh government collected Rs70 billion tax revenue, which was not spent on the megacity.

He also called for a judicial commission to probe the selling of jobs to unemployed youth in Sindh. He called on the government to end the discriminatory attitude towards urban citizens and provide equal rights to all residents.
