MQM rejects reports of political alliance with Musharraf

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Tuesday snubbed speculations on media regarding MQM’s political alliance with former president and All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Chief General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, ARY News reported

In a clarification statement, MQM spokesman said Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan met with Musharraf in a meeting of mutual friends over a meal.

“Pakistan’s political situation came under discussion during the meeting, while views were also exchanged with Musharraf regarding development of Karachi and powers of the elected local government representatives,” said an MQM press release.

The spokesperson said Coordinator APML Ahmed Raza Kasuri’s statement on the local media would be his personal desire and political alliance was not under consideration with MQM Pakistan.

He further said the process of consultation in MQM was completely democratic and Rabita Committee had the authority for all the decisions.

Ahmed Raza Kasuri has proposed ‘plus one formula’ with Pervez Musharraf as MQM’s leader.

MQM leader Syed Ali Raza Abidi has also rejected this proposal in a tweet.
