Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2 is the new goofy spy caper in town and to be honest, it is something we needed much earlier.
While rummaging through monotonous themed content and overexaggerated (not to mention vulgar) comedy flicks on Netflix, Murder Mystery 2 is nothing less than a surprising scroll stopper.
For the ones who already have watched the previous part, there seems to be no introduction needed for them.
For those `who aren’t familiar, this writing piece is majorly, if not all, for you.
The unparcelled duo of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston returns with another brief adventure followed by their proverbial comedy fusion. Both seem to blend in perfectly and never disappoint in delivering the moves and the style they’ve been known for all these years in Hollywood.
The situation mirrors the one in the previous part to a considerable extent but the sequence and the character they come with is nothing less than refreshing and revitalizing.
Nick (Adam) and Audrey (Jennifer) Spitz are an average New York couple but too ambitious to be normal. They are struggling in keeping up with fourth rate jobs for their unofficial detective agency. Nick, an ex-police officer and Audrey, a cookie cutter hairdresser takes inspiration from nothing but mystery and spy crime novels.
These book enthusiasts later end up in a misadventure which puts their detective skills to test. In this second part, the ambitious couple is once again squeezed into an unprecedented tragedy when their best friend Vik the Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) is kidnapped on his own wedding in which Nick and Audrey were special guests.
When Vik invites the couple to this super luxurious island, he greets them along with his bride to be Claudette (Mélanie Laurent), a Parisian shop girl with whom Vik suddenly found himself over heels. At his wedding, the couple is swept into a typical Indian wedding with choreographed dances and multiple events having Punjabi and Hindi songs being played in the background.
That’s not all, we get to see Adam and Jennifer groove on some of the Bollywood music and don traditional Desi suits.
Netflix’s Murder Mystery 2 is a cheeky light comedy carrying a hallmark era that exudes waves of nostalgia. For millennials, the movie itself is one of the biggest treats offered to us by Netflix this year. The project revisits the elements of old school drama, comedy and romance. Along with this, the viewers get to experience some gluing suspense.
And even though the movie can easily be observed as predictable, it is relieving and juvenile in many aspects of its nature.
The movie takes our nifty protagonists to the dreamy city of Paris and before that, to a tropical island for the wedding. On the Island, Nick struggles with his unhealthy growing love for a succulent piece of what he calls “Unicorn Cheese” while Audrey effuses over a pair of authentic Cartier Jewlery.
The couple also gets free iPhone as a complimentary in their exquisite villa by Vik. These little moments capture the essence of what connects the film genuinely with its viewers and are the best-selling points of Murder Mystery 2.

James Vanderbilt, the highly versatile man behind the story of this whodunnit movie series experience a part of him in which he possesses this fascinating penchant for crafting comic storylines. He is the man behind screenplays of White House Down (2013), The Amazing Spider Man series, and the iconic Horror movie series: Scream.
By observing James’s work, his writing is of the old school millennial eras revolving around the life of common people. This interestingly, is the winning formula of his work in the humor genre.
James’s penning of the perfect characters for Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston, made Murder Mystery one of the most successful movies of Netflix of the year 2019. Moreover, it’s the most successful Adam Sandler movie on the Netflix platform so far.
The duo on screen pair is a tried and tested strategy. Their first movie Just go with it (2011) came out as an entertaining experience for the viewers. From there on, it was cemented that these two actors could do wonders when paired up together. And they did.
One of the winning factors of this movie is my entertainment in observing the not so perfect couple of Nick and Audrey. The pair could be seen engaged in scuffles and the next thing you know they’re infatuated with one other only to fight back again.
This Tom and Jerry relations presents the ground reality and is a treat to watch in the film.
Murder Mystery 2 differs greatly from latter day comedies that mostly come enveloped in vulgarity and a plethora of inappropriate expletives.
The movie reminds you of the old times, the old decent ways of making people laugh with some of the best actors at their best.
As a person facing continues disappointment from Netflix, Murder Mystery replenishes hope in me to in enduring the platform and believing that it soon will release more content of similar nature.
It’s a highly recommended 80 minutes movie and good for a weekend night’s laughs.
