Murree Agreement: What will be the future of Balochistan?

Sources told that the agreement reached between the center and the province while Dr Malik-government was being formed is going to expire on December 4, following which a political transition is to take place in Balochistan.

However, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s silence on the matter has made the situation confusing.

Members of both the coalition parties in Balochistan are making efforts and next 24-48 hours are quite important in this regard, sources said.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Balochistan chapter’s chief Nawaz Sanaullah Zehri has been summoned to Islamabad, where he is expected to meet PM Sharif in a couple of days.

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has also reached the federal capital after touring Lahore.

Sources privy to all developments said that after Nawab Zehri’s meeting, National Party leader Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo and PkMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai are also expected to meet the prime minister.

It was further said PML-N circles close to the premier wish to keep Dr Malik the chief minister.

Yesterday, Dr Abdul Malik Baloch also called on Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif.

The ruling Nawaz-league wishes implementation of the Murree Agreement, whereas National Party and PkMAP are awaiting a decision by PM Sharif.

Sources also said that the ‘feedback’ of National Security Adviser Lt Gen (R) Nasir Khan Janjua, to the premier, will also be of critical importance pertaining to the implementation of Murree Agreement.

It should be noted here that Gen (R) Janjua lately retired as Commander of the Southern Command and is fully aware of the dynamics of Balochistan.
