KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has launched rehabilitation work on 106 roads across the city, damaged in the recent rains and urban flooding, ARY News reported on Sunday.
During a late-night inspection tour of different areas, including Korangi district, Murtaza Wahab promised completion within 60 days and added the initiative aims to restore damaged streets and improve urban mobility.
He noted that KMC had earlier rebuilt key routes such as Malir Kala Board and Khokhrapar roads, along with several inner streets.
The mayor criticized town administrations for granting permissions for gas line installations that led to road cutting without ensuring proper restoration.
“Road-cutting fees were collected, but roads were left damaged. KMC teams are now working overnight so that citizens wake up to newly built streets,” he said.
Murtaza Wahab stated that 170,000 square feet of road is under construction.

“We don’t just hold press conferences at 11 a.m.; we deliver results. Whatever resources and funds we have belong to the people, and KMC is going beyond its mandate to serve them,” he asserted.
He added that Rs28 billion would be spent this year on development, benefiting Karachi directly. “Work should not be managed remotely from Islamabad. Karachi is not a colony; our people can hold us accountable, unlike officials in Islamabad,” he remarked.
Wahab also mentioned that Model Colony Town has received a few billion rupees in allocations, with sewerage work expected to begin next week.
He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to “show generosity by visiting Karachi not just for hours but for several days, and allocate a dedicated budget for the city.”
