ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister Mushahidullah Khan has sent his resignation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday over a controversial interview alleging former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam of trying to engineer take over of the government.
Mushahidullah Khan has sent his resignation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from Maldives. The prime minister has asked him to meet after his return from abroad, Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed informed ARY News.
Mushahidullah Khan in an interview to BBC had alleged that the “former head of ISI had devised a conspiracy to remove the elected government.”
The government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had distanced itself from the controversial interview by releasing a statement seeking explanation of the minister.
After the interview Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed vehemently criticized his cabinet colleague and said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was disturbed over the interview and sought an explanation from Mushahidullah Khan.
Mushahidullah, who has been presently in Maldives to attend a moot, had sent an explanation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
According to government sources, the premier didn’t accept the clarification of his minister.
Mushahidullah Khan sent his resignation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after rejection of his clarification, Pervaiz Rasheed said.
Mushahidullah in interview to BBC had claimed that former DG ISI Lt. Gen. Zaheer-ul-Islam wanted to overthrow Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army Chief Raheel Sharif from power and take over the state.
ISPR in a statement had denied the allegations levelled by the government minister.
