NA calls for formation of committee to probe Gulalai's allegations

ISLAMABAD:The National Assembly on Friday called for constitution of a committee to carry out probe into the harassment allegations levelled by MNA Ayesha Gulalai against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, ARY News reported.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Arifa Khalid tabled a motion seeking setting up of a committee to investigate the woman National Assembly member’s allegations. The motion, which was adopted by the house, calls for constitution of a committee to look into the allegations. The investigation should be carried out and its report be submitted within a period of one month, it read.
Earlier, speaking on the floor of the house following the oath taking ceremony of the new federal cabinet, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi called for a parliamentary committee to inquire into the allegations of Ayesha Gulalai.
He said an investigation into the allegations against Imran Khan should be carried out and he should be given a fair hearing to defend the allegations. The investigation should be conducted in-camera, he suggested.
The prime minister directed the Inspector General of Islamabad police to provide round-the clock security to MNA Gulalai.
Ayesha Gulalai Wazir, a PTI member of the lower house of the parliament, who announced to leave the party in a press conference on Tuesday accused her party chairman Imran Khan and his cronies of sending indecent text messages to female members.
Gulalai also categorically rejected the PTI claims that she demanded party ticket to contest elections from Peshawar’s national seat NA-1, and said that there were several other reasons which led her to the decision to leave PTI, one of which was indecent messages from Imran Khan and his cronies.
In an exclusive interview with Kashif Abbasi on ARY News TV, Gulalai said the media reports with regard to her marriage proposal to Imran Khan are untrue. “Can I offer him marriage? He is years older than me. I condemn this allegation and want to know what is the source or proof of this news?” asked Gulalai while talking to Kashif Abbasi.
