NAB rejects claims of bringing top official to punish Sindhis

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday shot down claims that it has brought Irfan Naeem Mangi, a top NAB official who hails from Sindh, to arrest ‘Sindhis’, reported ARY News.

Clarifying that no province enjoyed exemption from actions against corrupt elements, the corruption watchdog said it has no links with any political party, individual or any group.

“NAB strongly condemns provincialism in any form,” read a clarification issued by the bureau in reaction to former president Asif Ali Zardari’s remarks against it after the arrest of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani over alleged accumulation of assets disproportionate to his source of income.

NAB said Durrani was arrested from Islamabad, adding that the bureau is a constitutional institution which works in line with the country’s Constitution and law.

“The bureau has been taking action against corrupt elements throughout the country. No province has any exemption from actions against corruption.”

Earlier today, NAB arrested the Sindh Assembly speaker on charges of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

Officials of NAB’s Karachi division arrested the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader from the federal capital.
