Dr. Asim sent on seven-day remand to NAB

The NAB will conduct forensic tests of Dr Asim to pursue further investigation into several cases against including land grabbing, money laundering, massive corruption and damage to national exchequer.

Earlier, DSP Altaf Hussain, who was the investigation officer in Dr. Asim’s case, said that he had released the former minister as there was insufficient evidence against him.

He said this after submitting the investigation report in the court today. The report also said that terrorism charges against Dr. Asim were not applicable.

However, the Rangers prosecutor rejected the investigation report submitted in court and said there was sufficient evidence and witness testimony against Dr. Asim. He also said the accused had confessed to all allegations against him in front of the joint investigation team.

The court had also given its remarks and said that the investigation report was incomplete. In response, the investigation officer requested the court to grant him a period till December 24 to submit the complete investigation report.

Dr. Asim also spoke on the occasion and said,” I am the son of Dr. Ziauddin, who was one of those who founded Pakistan. We belong to a family who had immense contribution in creation of Pakistan, and not those who have subjected it to harm.” He also said that no one was above the law and also alleged that changes were made in the computerized records.

I support the Rangers operation, he added. He also expressed his reservations the way he was being treated.

The former federal minister had been arrested by Rangers and upon completion of investigation, was handed over to the police.

Doctor Asim is also arrested in another case, which pertains to NAB. For this very matter, a NAB team had reached Gulberg police station, where they arrested Dr. Asim. According to sources, NAB had fulfilled all legal requirements, before taking Dr. Asim into custody.

It should be borne in mind that a couple of days ago, Dr. Asim’s Investigation Officer was changed as per directions given by I.G. Sindh.
