This 'smart' flowerpot is a 'natural' air purifier

The World Health Organisation has listed indoor pollution as one of the most dangerous threats to our health.
Indoor air quality is a serious concern because buildings and homes are becoming increasingly more sealed to reduce energy consumption.Recent studies have shown that indoor pollution is up to five times higher than outdoor pollution and we spend 90 percent of our time indoors.
However, San Francisco-based technology startup Clairy Inc claims it is on a mission to “sensitise people towards green ethics and healthcare issues” with its flowerpot-cum-air purifier.
Clairy has designed an incredible smart flowerpot and natural air purifier, powered by real plants, combining the power of nature and technology with the beauty of design to eliminate indoor pollution and analyse it.
They have named it Clairy and say it is handcrafted.
The product, designed in Italy, is dual-part ceramic flowerpot. Inside the larger flowerpot, a technology unit combined to a fan directs the air from inside the home to the roots of the plant to be detoxified.
Indoor air quality, temperature and humidity sensors continually test the quality of the air. From there, the built-in Wi-Fi module sends real-time updates to a smartphone.
The tech unit forces air into the roots of the plant eliminating toxic agents. Clairy alerts users of the toxin levels of the room which it’s in, as well as the temperature and humidity levels.
Because these levels have a strong correlation with the toxicity of a room, Clairy can give tips on how to adjust and improve the quality of the air.
In the 1980’s, NASA found that certain plants are able to eliminate toxic agents, but through their roots, not their leaves. Clairy therefore amplifies the natural properties of the plants by directing toxic agents through the roots of the plant-making homes a healthier place to live.
Traditional flowerpots don’t allow any air in the roots, therefore, a single plant isn’t able to filter properly all toxic agents. Clairy can clean 80 percent of a heavy polluted room of 386 cubic feet in only 30 hours from its first start.
The Clairy smartphone app, compatible with iOS and Android devices, can be used to analyse the air pollution in real time, monitor air temperature and humidity, manage Clairy’s fan, receive health tips, and communicate with other smart home devices
Clairy acts as a smart assistant to ensure living in a healthy environment, and can identify specific needs and advise from there. Clairy will tell when the air is potentially harmful and can help in fixing it immediately and improve the quality of life.
Clairy has been scientifically tested at LINV, one of the most prestigious research labs on plants in Europe and PNAT, a spin-off of the University of Florence, based in Italy. It has also been handcrafted by some of the best Italian artisans.
