ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Saturday said he was getting to understand a lot, but wanted to hold his peace for now, ARY News reported.
Speaking to reporters at Punjab House, he said there was no allegation of corruption or financial wrongdoings against him but he was disqualified for concealing a salary which he never received. How could I declare a salary I never received, he questioned.
Sharif arrived in Islamabad from Murree to chair a high profile meeting at Punjab House amid greetings by a large number of the ruling party’s supporters at various places on his way to the federal capital.
Reacting to former president Pervaiz Musharraf’s recent interview, Sharif asked when the courts will punish a dictator. Whether the courts could ever hold a dictator to account for his actions, he continued. No one has so far been held responsible for the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti, he said.
Nawaz Sharif, who was removed by a Supreme Court judgment on July 28, received a warm welcome by PML-N supporters at different places on his way to Islamabad. Sharif briefly alighted from his car and waved his hand in response to the party supporters’ after they surrounded the convoy of PML-N supremo.
Sharif was scheduled to preside over a meeting of the party leaders at Punjab House in Islamabad including members of newly formed federal cabinet who took oath on Friday.
According to sources, the meeting will review the ongoing political situation in the country.
The participants would also design policy guidelines for future agenda while strategy regarding Nawaz Sharif’s travel from Islamabad to Lahore would also be discussed.
The security in the federal capital has been beefed up on the arrival of the former prime minister as more than 8000 police personnel and 50 teams of Elite Force have been deployed at different locations to avoid any untoward situation.
The PML-N chief will stay a night in the Punjab House and will leave for Lahore from Islamabad on Wednesday via GT Road.
On the other hand, preparations have been completed to welcome Nawaz Sharif in Lahore as banners and flexes have been placed on Mall Road.
It is worth mentioning here that after getting ousted by Supreme Court of Pakistan in wake of its judgment in the Panama Papers case, the former premier and ruling party’s chief vacated the Prime Minister house and left for Murree along with family members on last Sunday.
Sharif had been holding consultative meetings with the members in Murree over the formation of the new cabinet and other political issues.
