ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif says chief justice of Pakistan should stick to his words in which he [reportedly] referred the prime minister as ‘faryaadi’, or supplicant. However, the apex court spokesperson denies the CJP used any such words for the premier.

Nawaz made these remarks following the Supreme Court’s clarification which stated that the CJP had never used the word ‘faryadi’, as reported by the media, for the PM.

“It is categorically stated that this attribution to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Mian Saqib Nisar is completely wrong and malicious. The Hon’ble Chief Justice holds the Prime Minister in high esteem, being the head of the government, and has never used the word “Faryadi” for him. Any misgivings in this regard should, therefore, be put to rest,” the statement issued by the apex court read.

Later is his remarks, Nawaz Sharif said that a chief justice or any other person should not utter words such as ‘faryadi’. He also took to task reported remarks by the CJP that ‘PM came with a plea’.

Answering a query regarding breaking of the judge-bench hearing Musharraf treason case, the former PM said that ‘these things happen’. But, he expressed confidence that Musharraf treason case will soon be finalised and accountability will take place.

In reference to the Avenfield case against his family, the ousted PM claimed that Panama Papers JIT head Wajid Zia had ‘gave us a clean chit’ after no proofs were furnished against us.
