IHC dismisses contempt plea against Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Wednesday dismissed the pending contempt of court plea against the former three-time prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif since 2018 for non-compliance.
The contempt of court petition was filed by a local citizen Adnan Iqbal.
While supporting his petition, the petitioner pleaded that the PML-N supremo had been constantly disgracing the judiciary and other state institutions in the media. He pleaded with the to initiate contempt proceedings against the former prime minister.
While no one appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner, on Chief Justice Aamer Farooq dismissed the petition for non-compliance.

It is pertinent to note that a contempt of court petition was filed in the IHC against PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif for his anti-judiciary speeches in 2018.
The court had fixed the five years old petition for hearing today. The registrar’s office had issued a cause list for fixing the case.
It is to be noted that Nawaz Sharif landed in Pakistan after ending his self-exile of four years, last month.
