New CJP Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk to take oath on July 5

ISLAMABAD: Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk will take oath as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan on July 05, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

President Mamnoon Hussain yesterday approved the appointment of Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk.

Incumbent Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani will retire on July 4. He will be replaced by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, who is the senior most judge of the Apex Court.

Justice Mulk was born on August 17, 1950 in Mingora town of Swat valley. He completed his degree of from Peshawar University and Bar-at-Law from Inner Temple London and was called to the Bar in 1977.

He remained Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court and elevated as Supreme Court judge in 2005.

Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk also holds the office of the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.

Tassaduq Hussain Jillani is set to retire after a 7-month stint as the country’s top judge.

Jilani’s term at the helm of the Supreme Court began last year after his predecessor, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, stepped down following eight tumultuous years in office.
