ISLAMABAD: Indian woman Dr. Uzma on Monday levelled allegations of harassment and forced marriage against her Pakistani spouse by filing a plea in a court here in reply to claims of her husband, ARY News reported.
Responding to claims of a Pakistani man – who had accused the Indian High Commission (IHC) in Islamabad of detaining his newly-wed Indian wife – Uzma said that she was forced to sign on ‘Nikahnama’ (marriage certificate).
She appeared before a local court and recorded her statement.
Uzma apprised Magistrate Haider Ali that she was forced to sign a marriage certificate on gun point and she has taken refuge at the Indian High Commission.
Rejecting the claims of her husband, she claimed that her all possessions were also taken away while rejecting that she came to Pakistan with an intention of marriage.
It is worth mentioning here that a Pakistani man, Muhammad Tahir, had alleged the high commission of detaining his wife when they went there to apply for his visa.
Uzma, from Delhi, met Tahir in Malaysia. She travelled to Pakistan on May 1st via the Wagah-Attari border and the two reportedly contracted Nikah on May 3.
The Indian woman also said that she has requested the Indian mission to ‘repatriate’ her to India and by the time she would stay at the high commission office in Islamabad.
Besides Tahir, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Nafees Zakaria, had also claimed the woman ‘went missing’ from the IHC in Islamabad and was ‘stranded’ inside the building.
Responding to allegations, the Indian High Commission had then told the Pakistan Foreign Ministry that the woman, Uzma, 20, had approached them with a request to be repatriated to India. According to the Indian High Commission, Uzma claimed to have married Tahir, but later came to know that he was already married and had four children.
