Nusrat Bhutto an epitome of Democracy

They say that a mother is the first institution for any child. Benazir Bhutto was a daughter of the greatest leader of Pakistan but her courage and bravery was the legacy of her mother.  She inherited the courage of a woman who faced exile, imprisonment torture and shelling, still she stood rigid by her husband during his life and even after his departure. We can hardly find someone in Pakistan who does not know about Bhutto family’s contribution in Pakistani politics and when we talk about this political family the services of Begum Bhutto can’t be ignored. She is an icon for women in Pakistan.

Begum Bhutto was a daughter of an Iranian businessman, who got married to Syed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in Karachi. She was the first lady of Pakistan from 1973 to 1976 and later, became the Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party after her husband’s execution. She is that one woman who sacrificed her husband, two sons and a daughter for the survival of democracy in Pakistan.

The great lady passed away on 23rd October 2011. Today the third death anniversary of former first lady of Pakistan Begum Nusrat Bhutto is being observed at Garhi Khuda Baksh. Workers of PPP are gathering on her mausoleum to pay gratitude to the lady for her bravery and courage. Her grandson who is the current chairman of PPP Bilawal Bhutto also paid her a tribute on her last resting place.

The lady suffered from Alzeihmer’s Disease and combined effects of a stroke. Begum Bhutto was 82 years old when she died and is buried beside her husband.
