Pak-Afghan Chaman border closure hurting locals

The porous border was closed after a bunch of angry Afghan civilians protested violently at the border and pelted stones at the Bab-e-Dosti (Friendship Gate) on August 18.

To-and-fro movement of thousands of locals was affected, disrupting business activities after Pakistan’s border officials and key decision-makers decided to shut the doors of the border.

Tension at the border continued between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

In a bid to reopen Bab-e-Dosti, three flag meetings between the neighbouring countries, convened on the request of the Afghan forces, failed without any conclusion.

There has been no business activity along the border suspending the Pak-Afghan business exchanges, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) supplies and transit trade services.

Drivers have parked their NATO containers and goods carrying trucks in long queues on both sides of the border, awaiting its opening at the earliest.
