Pakistan supports Afghan-owned peace talks: FM Qureshi

ISTANBUL: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan will continue supporting Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace talks, ARY News reported.
Talking to Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani on the sidelines of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) emergency meeting in Istanbul, Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday said that Pakistan would continue to execute its joint responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in the region including in Afghanistan.
He said that restoration of peace in war-torn Afghanistan was beneficial for the entire region. On the occasion,
Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani hailed Pakistan’s role for restoration of peace in Afghanistan.

Earlier, US Central Command chief General Joseph Votel on March 8, had lauded Pakistan’s role for bringing peace and stability in South Asia.
“Lots of positive coming out from the Afghan reconciliation process,” Votel had told the House Armed Services Committee. He had said Pakistan’s role for bringing Taliban on the table of talks is appreciable.
Replying to a question about withdrawal of the troops from Afghanistan, the Centcom chief had said “We have not been directed to withdraw. There are no orders to withdraw anything.”
