Pakistan didn't pressurize Afghan Gov't for security agreement with US: Sartaj

ISLAMABAD: PM’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz has clarified that Pakistan has not pressurized the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai for signing the security agreement with the United States (US) and stories published in this regard in the Washington Post are baseless – ARY News reports.

 

Talking to media outside the Parliament House here on Thursday, Sartaj Aziz said that the agreement relating to the evacuation of US troops is an issue between the US and Afghan Government, Pakistan has no pressure on Afghanistan in this regard.

 

He said that Pakistan does not want a civil war in Afghanistan for if the circumstances worsened then it will also have its effects here.

 

Commenting on the NATO supply blockage and US secretary of Defence, Chuck Hagel’s visit to Pakistan, Sartaj turned down the rumors of US abandoning its military aid to Pakistan, saying that the supply is continued via Chaman, Balochistan.

 

However in return to a question, he said that this perception is wrong that blocking the NATO supply will get the drone attacks stopped.

 

Speaking about Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, the Advisor on Foreign Affairs told that both the states are pondering upon extending the dead-line from 2014 and the adjustment of gas tariff.
