‘Pakistan, India must start talking to each other, rather than at each other’

UNITED NATIONS: The only way forward to de-escalate the rising tensions between Pakistan and India was through discussion, said Prime Minister’s Special Envoy Senator Mushahid Hussain.

“We should start talking to each other, rather than at each other,” Hussain stressed during an event in the US.

Pakistan wanted talks with India on all important matters including Kashmir, but New Delhi, unfortunately, ‘closed’ all doors, he said on Wednesday while speaking to the United Nations Corps of Correspondents.

Senator Hussian, along with a member of National Assembly, Dr Shezra Mansab Ali, was on a trip to Washington and New York as part of a Pakistan’s diplomatic offensive to highlight the Kashmir issue and to counter Indian aggression in the disputed region.

“Pakistan was ready to engage with India, bilaterally, regionally and internationally, said Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi, however, “Pakistan wants the Indian atrocities in Kashmir to stop,” she added.

On this occasion, Dr Ali detailed the killings of peaceful Kashmiri demonstrators and the injuries caused by the use of pallet guns by Indian forces in the Himalayan valley.

Earlier, Pakistan Special Envoys on Kashmir handed over a dossier to the President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly Peter Thomson yesterday and stressed on grave human rights violations in the Indian-held Kashmir.

Senator Hussain and Dr Ali accompanied by Ambassador Lodhi presented the dossier to Mr Thomson in Washington, according to a press release issued by the Pakistan Mission to the UN.

Mr Thomson was told that a worrying situation in the held valet posed a threat to regional peace and security, and the UN must fulfil its responsibility and allow the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination.

Senator Hussian and Dr Shezra Mansab are due to return home tomorrow (Friday).
