Pakistan desires to learn from Chinese expertise in IT, other fields: PM Imran

BEIJING: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has transformed into a strategic partnership between the two neighbouring countries, deepening cooperation in diverse fields.

“CPEC which was initially deemed an infrastructure project, including construction of a network of roads and power projects, has ushered in cooperation in various fields,” he said while addressing Pakistan and China Investment Forum in Beijing.

The prime minister said agriculture field is a new area of cooperation, adding Chinese assistance in development of seed will help increase crop yield manifold.

Talking about his meeting with the Chinese president and premier, he said the matters pertaining to cooperation in the field of science and technology also came under discussion. He said the country wanted to learn from Chinese expertise in information technology and other areas.

PM Khan said even the Chinese leadership didn’t know at first that the Belt and Road Initiative would evolve into a much bigger thing. The main concern among all the participants of the 2nd Road and Belt Forum was about climatic changes and measures to mitigate their adverse impacts.

He said Pakistan took revolutionary steps to tackle the situation stemming from climate changes, adding one billion saplings were planted to increase green spaces in the country.

About the Afghan imbroglio, the prime minister said Afghan peace will help enhance connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian countries.

He reiterated the country’s commitment to helping the peace process in Afghanistan, adding Pakistan is playing its part in bringing Taliban and Afghan government representatives to dialogue table to resolve the decades old conflict.
