PCB slammed for ‘ignoring’ Imran in World Cup 1992 victory tribute

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a video on March 25 paying tribute to the Pakistan cricket stars of 1992 for bringing home the World Cup trophy, but the commemoration lacked acknowledgment for one of the key members of the then team – skipper Imran Khan whose leadership was instrumental in taking Pakistan to the WC triumph.

The video released by the PCB was well received among fans on the social media, but it came as a bit surprise for viewers as it featured some of the 1992 team members but Imran. Surprisingly the video also didn’t feature Javed Miandad and Aamir Sohail.

In a television interview, Sohail hit out at the PCB and termed the tribute ‘politically motivated’.

He believed that all the officials within the PCB were being hired at the behest of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), while Imran Khan was the key opposition leader, “So how could PCB go against the ruling elite,” he said.

The prominent parts of the video shows PSL chairman Najam Sethi, incumbent PCB chief Shehryar Khan and a few other cricket greats like Mushtaq Ahmed, Wasim Akran, Moin Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq but the absence of Khan was promptly noticed by the fans at first.

Imran Khan, who is now head of a political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, enjoys fame and praise for his feats in the Pakistan cricket.

The World Cup 1992 tribute video was released by the PCB to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the glorious victory in Melbourne. The PCB high-ups praised the leadership and termed it a big factor in the historical win. Imran can also be seen lifting the trophy while the video fades out with him addressing the crowd.
