PFA seals seven breakfast points in Lahore

Lahore: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Monday sealed seven breakfast points and imposed heavy fines on a number of others for violating food safety regulations.

According to a statement issued by authority, food safety teams under the supervision of food safety officers launched an operation against breakfast points in Lahore.

The PFA teams sealed seven breakfast points for using smelly rancid oil, preparing food with unhygienic spices, greasy floor production area, and abundance of insects and unavailability of medical certificates of food workers.

It is pertinent to note here that just last week, PFA’s food safety teams carried out a special drive against canteens and cafeterias operating in educational institutions and hostels and inspected the food safety measures.

According to a statement released by the authority, as many as 128 messes and cafeterias of private and public universities were visited by the authority in a daylong operation across the provincial capital.

The food safety teams shut down eight cafeterias including Punjab University Girls Hostel 5’s canteen and student bakers and snack bar in Lahore.

The Punjab food Authority has been working as a functional entity in district Lahore since July 2, 2012. The authority enforces food hygiene and quality standards as described in the Punjab Food Authority Act 2011 and the Pure Food Rules 2011 through a qualified team of Food Safety Officers (FSOs’) and Assistant Food Safety Officers (AFSOs’).
