PHC moved for disqualification of Imran Khan

PESHAWAR: A petition was filed in the Peshawar High Court, seeking the disqualification of former prime minister Imran Khan from contesting National and provincial assemblies’ elections on multiple grounds.

The petition was filed by the provincial president of the ANP, Aimal Wali Khan, in the PHC through Qazi Jawad Ihsan and Muhammad Waqas, Advocate.

The writ petition stated that former prime minister Imran Khan should be disqualified from holding any public office for submitting false statements about his assets.

The petition maintained that the PTI chief did not mention the amount he got after selling gifts from Toshakhana in his assets while submitting nomination papers for by-polls in NA-45 and six other seats.

It also asked the court to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to de-notify Imran Khan from his National Assembly seat, remove him from the slot of chairman PTI and disqualify him from public offices.

Another petition was filed by JUI-F worker Ahmad Ali, through Kamran Murtaza, advocate, to get Imran disqualified.

The petitioner asked the PHC to disqualify Imran Khan for marrying Bushra Bibi allegedly during Iddat, which was illegal and against the Sharia.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court (LHC) stopped the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) from removing Imran Khan as chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) following his disqualification in the Toshakhana reference.

The PTI chief in his petition argued that the electoral body was exceeding its powers by trying to remove him as the party head, adding that the ECP issued him the notice “illegally”.
