KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and televangelist Aamir Liaquat Hussain on Sunday opened up about his academic record and responded to the claims that he falsely used to call himself a doctor despite never doing a doctorate, ARY News reported.

As the PTI leader submitted his nomination papers with Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and submitted his 2013 Masters Degree, a number of his critics claimed that he had a fake doctorate degree or that he falsely claimed to be a doctor.

“I never had a PhD degree… for 15 years people are calling me doctor, but the thing is I never did doctorate.. now why I am called doctor? I studied in Liaquat Medical College for three years and people usually call medical students doctor as soon as they join college,” explained Amir Liaquat Hussain.

He said that he did Bachelors in Islamic Studies from Karachi University and then Masters in Islamic History from Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (FUUAST) and has only those degrees.

“People just share that copy of PhD degree and claim that it is mine, I just want them to share the original degree with me,” said Aamir Liaquat.

Aamir Liaquat Hussain, who was part of Muttahida Qaumi Movement till 2016, left the party after founder Altaf Hussain’s August 22, 2016 speech in which he urged his supporters to raise anti-Pakistan slogans and attack media houses.

He joined PTI in March and said that it is the “last party” he has joined.

He will now contest polls from Karachi’s NA-245 constituency against MQM-P’s Farooq Sattar.
