PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has banned pillion riding and imposed section 144 in Peshawar to ensure law and order situation in the provincial capital, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

A notification has been issued by Deputy Commissioner Peshawar in this regard.

Under Section 144, the display and carrying of arms will also be banned in the province. The ban has also been imposed on the movement of Afghan refugees, according to a notification.

The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) on November 22 had warned that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Taliban (TTP) could target the country’s political leadership in Peshawar.

The NACTA had issued a threat alert that the PDM rally can be targetted by the TTP through a suicide bomber or IED blast at the jalsagah or adjoining areas.  The alert was issued after a call of the TTP was traced by the intelligence agencies.
