The plea was filed by one Advocate Aftab Virk. He contended in his petition that it’s mandatory for any political party to be patriotic, however the petitioner didn’t shed light on parameters for evaluating patriotism.

He claimed that MQM chief was involved in anti-Pakistan activities. He said MQM’s head raised slogans against the country in his speeches.

“These statements prove that MQM is an anti-Pakistan political party,” he said.

He urged the court to issue orders to cancel registration of the MQM.

In August 2015, the LHC had banned live broadcast of speeches of the Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.

A three-member bench of the LHC heard the treason case against Altaf Hussain and issued those orders.

Four identical petitions were filed with the court, seeking ban on Mr. Hussain’s speeches. One of the petitioners said the MQM head gave speeches which were tantamount to treason.

It pleaded the court to initiate action against speeches of Mr. Hussain as federal government and relevant ministries failed to take any action against it.

The MQM chief has been in hot water ever since he launched diatribe against Pakistan Army and armed forces for targeting his party in the guise of ‘operation against criminals’ in Karachi.
