PM Abbasi says PML-N govt will complete its term

JHANG: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Saturday lashed out at the political opponents demanding snap elections, saying the government will complete its term.

Addressing the ceremony of laying foundation stone of a Liquefied Natural Gas-fired power plant here today, the premier once again rejected calls for early elections and said the next general elections should be held on the dot.

He said political alliances were in the making against the PML-N government adding there was no need to form such alliances as the government will complete its tenure.

Abbasi said his party will contest the next polls on the basis of its performance.

Highlighting the significance of the project, he said the LNG-based power plant with capacity of 1263 megawatt of electricity would be completed within the record period of fourteen months at the cost of Rs80 billion.

Comparing the projects initiated by his government with those of the previous governments, the premier said the PPP brought Rental Power Project, which was completed in 30 months, but did not generate a single watt, instead ran the country deep into debt.

When the PML-N came to power, there was a shortfall of 10,000 megawatt, but the government under leadership of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif completed several power plants on fast-track, Abbasi said.

He praised the services of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, saying had he not been around, the projects would have suffered delays.

Abbasi said the government had put an end to load-shedding in the country, but where there is electricity theft, the people will continue to witness power outages.
