PM Nawaz approves Ashraf Wathra’s appointment as governor SBP

ISLAMABAD: Ashraf Mahmood Wathra has been appointed as the permanent governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday, ARY News reported.
Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has approved the appointment of Ashraf Mahmood Wathra as SBP governor for three years.
On March 5, 2013, Ashraf Wathra was appointed as the interim SBP chief after its previous governor Yasin Anwer had resigned in late January.
Earlier, government of Pakistan is considering renowned banker Mohammad Aurangzaib, who is the son of former Attorney General of Pakistan Chaudhry Mohammad Farooq for the post. However severe criticism was raised from Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) against his consideration for being relative of former Supreme Court judge Justice Khalil ur Rehman Ramday.
In between, Ashraf Wathra was appointed as the interim governor of SBP, who created a good impression by giving hike to the rupee against dollar.
