Firefighters douse blaze at PM Secretariat building

ISLAMABAD: Firefighters have doused blaze erupted at the sixth floor of Prime Minister Secretariat building, located at Constitution Avenue in Islamabad, on Monday afternoon, ARY News reported.

After the eruption of fire, five vehicles of fire brigade commenced activities after arriving in at the building, which serves as the headquarters for the Cabinet and Government of Pakistan.

The fire eruption was caused by a ‘short circuit’, officials said.

A skylift was also brought to the building, whereas, officials of Wapda and SSGC were also summoned.

Hundreds of employees present inside the building were safely evacuated from the emergency exit passages. Heavy contingents of police deployed outside the Secretariat.

According to an initial report, the blaze was possibly caused by a short circuit while firefighting teams were ascertaining the reasons by opening all ducts of the building.

The report stated that no damages were caused to furniture, documents and reports.

Special Assistant to the PM, Yousaf Mirza Baig, said that the fire was actually broke out at the bathroom of the third floor while its smoke reached to the sixth floor of the building.

He said that immediate steps were taken to control the blaze. Baig added that all staff members were safely brought out and no casualty was made in the incident.

Baig said that the authorities were investigating into the matter to get known about the reason behind the blaze.
