ISLAMABAD: Hours after a new caretaker prime minister was sworn in, the principal secretary to the prime minister Fawad Hasan Fawad was transferred from his position.

Fawad has been appointed as Director General Civil Services Academy. He is being replaced by Sohail Amir, while Abu Atif has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary.

Furthermore, nine new members of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) have also been appointed. A notification in this regard has been issued by President Mamnoon Hussain.

A massive shuffle is expected as several bureaucrats and judicial magistrates are likely to be replaced or transferred prior to the next general elections scheduled for July 25.

Fawad Hasan Fawad was appointed on 21 November 2015 and served as the principal secretary to former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

He is currently facing several corruption cases in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) including the Ashiana-e-Iqbal housing scheme scam, and has skipped several summons by the anti-graft watchdog.

His replacement Sohail Amir is Grade-22 officer and one of the most senior members of the bureaucracy. He was appointed as Secretary Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resources in 2016, and was previously associated with the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
