PMD forecasts week-long spell of rain in Karachi amid Eid celebrations

KARACHI: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a continuous spell of rain in the port city from Tuesday (tomorrow) till the weekend amid Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

The weather forecasting department has cautioned Karachiites for possible impact of around week-long spell of rain. However, the precipitation magnitude is yet to be predicted.

Moreover, the temperature is expected to rise and sea-breeze may also come to a halt on Tuesday, sources at PMD said.

Meantime, Mithi, Hyderabad, Badin, Tharparkar and other areas of Sindh will receive heavy rains as a storm system – currently present in north-eastern India – is expected to enter into the province from Tuesday.

The weather forecasting department feared flash flooding while ruling out threat of a hurricane.

As per the PMD predictions, this would be challenging for the city administration to handle managerial responsibilities of Karachi on Eid-ul-Azha occasion.

The drains of the city feared to get clogged easily during Eid celebrations begin from Saturday entailing sacrificing of animals and reckless disposal of animal waste.

Currently the PMD web portal states that mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thunderstorm is expected at few places in Mirpurkhas division.

It is worth mentioning here that around a dozen of people died, mostly due to electrocution, after downpour battered the city.
