PML-N sets up its own ‘anti-rigging cell’

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has formed a cell in its home-turf Lahore to record complaints in connection to pre-poll and polling-day ‘rigging’.

The formulation of the cell was directed by convicted party quaid Nawaz Sharif after a few candidates contacted him with a complaint about alleged pre-polling rigging in some constituencies.

The cell will operate from PML-N’s Secretariat in Model Town, Lahore.

According to PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurenzeb, the cell consists a team of lawyers and senior leaders like former law minister Zahid Hamid and Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed.

The PML-N leader said that the party would also give a UAN (universal access number) so that the candidates, party men and voters send their complaints on the number. After receiving complaints the cell will not only release the names – of government officials or private persons (involved in rigging)– but also lodge a strong protest in this regard.

The party spokesperson alleged that pre-poll rigging was already underway and said that some of the party workers were harassed by Punjab Highways Petrol Police DIG Suhail Sukhera in the latest incident.

She said that the party, through its cell, would also forward rigging complaints to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
