KARACHI: Police claimed to have seized thousands of toy guns during raids in different parts of the metropolis following the provincial home department’s ban on sale of such guns.

Sindh Home Department had earlier on June 9 issued a notification banning the sale and manufacturing of toy guns for two months under the Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The ban was imposed on the request of the Karachi commissioner who wrote to the home department asking it to ban toy guns as these were being used by street criminals and had a bad impact on children’s mind.

Following the ban, Karachi police launched a crackdown on sale of toy guns in the metropolis and seized thousands of toy guns and arrested 22 shopkeepers and traders of replicas of weapons.

The arrested suspect have been held under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the State.

Sindh Assembly back in 2015 had also passed a resolution banning the manufacturing and sale of toy guns.
