KARACHI: Police, being blasted over its lukewarm response to the knife attacks on women in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi, on Thursday night in a crackdown in the locality rounded up as many as 20 suspects in raids, ARY News reported.
Acting swiftly on an intelligence tip-off about presence of unscrupulous elements in the area, police conducted door-to-door operation in the residential area of Rabia City, arresting 20 miscreants over suspicion. All entry and exit routes to Rabia City were sealed during the search operation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East has claimed to have arrested three suspected miscreants after recovering paper cutter and sharp-edged tools from their possession.
The senior cop further said that an investigation has been underway with the detainees.
However, no further details were shared with regard to the identification of the suspected criminals. The raids in Gulistan-e-Johar were carried out at a time when the city police investigating a stabbing spree, injuring over a dozen women.
Earlier, police had claimed to have made a ‘key arrest’ but the assertion was proven wrong after another knife assault was reported on Wednesday (yesterday).
The investigators, after the Thursday night attack, are now also thinking on a line that more than one people could be involved in the stabbing spree in Karachi.
Separately, police have arrested over 10 people during a search operation in the Wah Cantt area of Sargodha in Punjab, after recovering narcotics from their possession.
