Police claims busted gang of four car lifters' in Karachi

KARACHI: The police here on Friday claimed to have busted a gang of four car lifters involved in theft of 25 to 30 vehicles from the city, ARY News reported on Friday.

SP Clifton Police Suhai Aziz Talpur in a statement said that the car-lifting gang was used to steal vehicles from Karachi and drive them to Balochistan for sale.

The gang members after selling cars bring back drugs to Karachi from the crime money to sell the narcotics in the city, the police officer said.

The accused were used to lift car models of year 2004 to 2008 and sell them in Rs. 80,000 in Balochistan, SP Suhai Aziz said.

The accused have criminal record and were also arrested earlier, the police officer said.

She disclosed that another gang of car lifters operating in the metropolis has been traced and will be arrested by the police soon.

The complaints of car theft are common in Karachi as scores of vehicles snatched or stolen from the port city.

King of Motorcycle Thieves

Karachi police in October last year arrested a 60-year-old man for stealing more than 100 motorcycles from different areas of the city.

The man was arrested by Ferozabad police and at least 22 motorcycles were recovered from his possession.

SHO Ferozabad told ARY News that the suspect was arrested by police seven times before in different areas of Karachi.

The police officer said that the man used to steal motorcycles from different areas of the city including shopping hubs like Tariq Road and sell them at between Rs8,000 to Rs6,000.

The man being dubbed the “king of motorcycle thieves” is said to have stolen and sold more than 100 motorcycles. The suspect worked alone.
