QUETTA: At least four people including a senior police officer were killed in a gun attack in Nawan Kali area of Balochistan’s Quetta city, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

According to police, armed riders opened fire on SSP Investigations Muhammad Ilyas’s car in Nawan Kali area killing the officer, his wife, son and granddaughter.

The assailants managed to flee after the attack. Police and Frontier Corps have reached the spot and have started the investigation.

Chief Minister Balochistan Sanaullah Zehri condemned the attack and expressed deep grief and sorrow over the incident.

Back in January, at least three policemen were killed and a passer-by was injured when unknown armed assailants targeted a police checkpoint on Quetta’s Sariab Road.

In October last year, at least 60 people were killed and more than 100 injured when gunmen wearing suicide vests stormed a Police Training Center in Quetta and took hostages, before launching an armed assault.

Five to six terrorists stormed into the police training center at Sariab Road and killed at least 60 security officials after taking them hostage under the cover of aerial fire.
